LifeSketch: taken from Murder Along the Tracks by Jack L. Dickinson and Kay Stamper Dickinson: That on December 22, 1917 Charley Dingess went to the home of Wade Marcum and shot him, his wife and his sons John and William. Mrs. Marcum, although seriously wounded, seized a rifle and shot Charley Dingess to death. In July 1918, Wade Marcum and his two sons were convicted of involuntary manslaughter and fined five dollars each. They were defended by John S. Marcum in trial at Wayne. It is believed that deputy Marcum lost his life because of the time it took him to attach an artificial leg after the danger of the fire became apparent.
