    LifeSketch: Robert Bruce was the fifth child of James VI of Scotland and Anne of Denmark. He was created Duke of Kintyre and Lorne on 2 May 1602, the same day he was baptised in Dunfermline Abbey, being carried there on a large purple velvet cushion by the Duke of Lennox. On his death, four months later, all his titles, created only 25 days earlier, became extinct.
