Manuscript: "Agnes Crawford, Dublin, Ireland. Married to John McCreery in her night cap two weeks previous to the announcement to her family, he being a plebeian, she of royal blood, moved to Maryland, then a colony in 1727." Supposedly, John was apprenticed to Agnes' father, a jeweler or goldsmith. They were marreid at night on the doorstep of her father's house. Her father disinherited her and drove her away when he found out. "When thier eldest child was born its grandparents, in Dublin, sent a handsome and beautiful outfit--a purple velvet coat embroidered in gold with gold lace and fringe, a lace dress and cap. That was all they ever received." This supposedly because there is an Irish superstition that great misfortune will happen to a family if the grandmother fails to provide an outfit for the oldest child.
She was supposed to have inherited a fortune, but her children did not know of it and so it was forfeited to the Crown. (Cf. Cora Wilson p.62).
Referred to both as Agnes and Nancy (names interchangeable).
