This John Bynum was born about 1692, he will move into the southwestern portion of Surry Co., which became Brunswick, Lunenburg, Halifax and finally Pittsylvania County. He will die there in 1775. He and his wife Mary had four sons: John, Gray, Arthur, and Samuel Bynum all born in Surry County, Virginia. page 87. Baird states on page 87, "This branch of Bynum’s produced more than its share of prominent citizens. It also produced more than its share of ‘dead ends’ and genealogical mysteries". This John Bynum will hold the family record for number of lawsuits. John Bynum evidently died in 1775. His wife Mary is not mentioned in any records after 1740. Mary’s last name was possibly Evans. She may have also been a Gray as there were numerous Grays near John Bynum in both Surry and Pittsylvania Counties.st son, Samuel, leaves a Lincoln County will in 1802 to his sons: Gray, William, and Turner.to John Bynham and his wife Mary.’
