Muscatine, Iowa - Alma Marie King, 93, formerly of 902 E. Eighth St., died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Muscatine General Hospital.
The burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park.
Mrs. McCarty had a teaching career that spanned 41 years. She taught in rural schools for eight years and also taught 13 years at St. Mary's School in Muscatine.
She retired from Lincoln Elementary School in 1972 but continued to do substitute teaching for 14 years after her retirement.
She was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Lake Township, Muscatine, to Charles M. and Agnes (Hickey) King. She married Lawrence A. McCarty on Oct. 7, 1930, at St. Mary's Church in Muscatine.
He died in August. 15, 1972. She had been a life resident of Muscatine. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Catholic Guild.
She also was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and was active on the national, state and local level. In addition to her teaching, she was active in school and civic activities.
She served as president of St. Mary's PTA and for years was active in Cub Scout work.
Survivors include sons, Robert L. McCarty, Lisle, Ill., James C. McCarty, Newark, Del., and Thomas J. McCarty, Davenport; a daughter, Dorothy Jean (Mrs. Gerald) McKinney, Davenport; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Margaret Strutsman, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Dorothy Lorber and Catherine Furlong.
