      LifeSketch: Richard 1. af Normandiet (933 - 20. november 996) var hertug af Normandiet fra 942 til 996. Han havde tilnavnet Richard Den Frygtløse [San Peur]. Han var søn af Vilhelm 1. Langsværd, jarl af Normandiet og Sprota, der var en bretonsk medhustru fanget i krig og knyttet til Vilhelm gennem "dansk ægteskab". Efter Vilhelms død blev Sprota gift med en rig møller ved navn Esperleng. Richard var en dreng på kun 10 år ved faderens død i 942, og kunne intet stille op mod Louis 4. af Frankrigs overtagelse af Normandiet. Richard flygtede fra fangenskab i Laon og allierede sig med normanniske vikingeanførere, fordrev Lous fra Rouen og tog Normandiet tilbage i 947. Richards første ægteskab var med Emma af Paris, hertuginde af Normandiet og blev indgået i 960. Hun døde i 966. Ifølge Robert af Torigny var Richard på jagt ikke længe efter Emmas død.
