3. Sylvester JOSLIN came from Rhode Island in 1800, and settled on the farm where his son Hiram now lives. He was then in the midst of the forest, and his worldly effects consisted of an old horse, saddle and bridle and $40. Indians and wolves were abundant at that time, and many a red skin had been fed by Sylvester JOSLIN. The last visitor made his calls occasionally till 1858. The last time he came, he said: "Poor Jake never come again, going to the happy hunting grounds." The family of Sylvester JOSLIN consisted of seven children, of whom Hiram alone is living. Andrew, his oldest son, was quartermaster in Colonel Matthew MYER'S regiment in the war of 1812. Hiram JOSLIN was born in 1804. At his earliest recollection there were but four houses in what is now Frankfort village. He was an overseer on the canal during its construction. About 1828 he married Elizabeth H., daughter of Captain Henry HELMER. She was born in 1806, and she is now living. The mother of Hiram is still living at the age of eighty-nine.

All of the above children were born in Exeter, Washington County, Rhode Island.4. The ancestry of John Joslin is well documented back to Thomas Joslin the first Joslin immigrant to the colonies in 1635. The ancestry in England for previous generations is also fairly well documented.This particular family were loyalists. As such, Andrew and Rufus fled to what is now New Brunswick in 1783. The others of the family appear to have moved to New York where their loyalists leanings were unknown and they would not be persecuted by the victorious colonialists. My line, from Andrew, reentered the US in the later 1800's in Michigan. We have a large number of cousins in New Brunswick, Ontario and Michigan and to some extent throughout Canada and the US.

In the name of God Amen.
I Sylvester Joslin of the Town of Frankfort & County of Herkimer & State of New York do ordain this instrument to be my Last Will and Testament oy (sic).
Item: I give unto my loving wife Hannah Joslin the great room, in and northeast bedroom a privilege in the chamber and bathery (sic) and in the cellar, and one cow to be kept winter and summer, fire wood to be delivered to the house and outfit for the farm with a sufficient quantity of grain for her support as long as she remains my widow, with all the household furniture. That all my debts and funeral charges be punctually paid by my executors hereafter named.
Item: I give to my daughter Hannah Budlong one set of Callico (sic) Curtains one set of Winsor (sic) chairs and one Bible.
My will is that my heirs that are under twenty-one years of age, Sylvester Joslin, Benedict Joslin, John Joslin, Christopher Joslin, Hiram Joslin shall be educated and clothed out of my estate to common becoming and their labor for the benefit of the estate till each one shall arrive to the age of twenty-one years. My will is that what remains of my estate, real and personal, when my youngest child shall arrive at the age of twenty-one years, shall be equally divided amongst them except my daughter Hannah Budlong above named which has had her share of my estate and lastly I nominate my wife Hannah Joslin and my son Andrew Joslin and Christopher Joslin executors of this my last Will and Testament wholly revoking all others, in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord 1813.
