      Death of Robert Blair,-
      On Sunday last, Robert Blair, who had for some years officiated as sexton in Alloa Church-yard, and whose ancestors for several generations had discharged the same duties, was interred in the burial-ground here. Blair had been in indifferent health for a considerable time past, and he died in Musselburgh Asylym.

      Within the last few days. Captain Harvey has erected a monumental stone in Alloa Churchyard, to the memory of his father and mother. The circumstance is here alluded to on account of the workmanship being of a very superior order, and coming from the hands of a young self taught native of AIloa, Robert, Blair, son of the late sexton. We hope his talents in this department of sculpture will not be overlooked by our local readers.

      NARROW ESCAPE OF A GRAVEDIGGER
      On Tuesday last, while Robert Blair, the sexton, and his assistant, were employed in excavating a grave in the old churchyard, one side of the grave gave way, and falling in, completely buried the former, who was working in a stooping position at the time. The assistant, being buried up to the breast, could render no assistance, and in all probability the sexton, who was entirely covered with earth, would have been smothered, but for the presence of two gentlemen, who, having witnessed the occurrence, lost no time in having extricated (him) from his perilous position. We are glad to say he has now entirely recovered from the effects of his premature entombment.

      ALLOA CHURCH YARD.
      We are glad to notice that those having the superintendence of the Alloa Churchyard-the brothers Blair - have been improving the amenities of the old burial-ground, where, as well as in the new, there repose dust precious to almost every family amongst us. The improvements are not completed, but what has been done in the way of levelling the ground and improving the pathways, is indicative of a commendable desire on the part of the sextons to render the spot more agreeable to visitors and less of a reproach to us than it has formerly been. One of the more recent tombstones erected in the new cemetery is to the memory of Mr George Walker, surgeon, who, it may be remembered, came to Alloa at once to assist Mr Brotherson, and gain experience in his profession, at a time when Mr B. was laid aside for a few months from typhus fever. Mr Walker, however, in the discharge of his duties, caught the infection himself, and died, after a short illness, in the house of Dr. Brotherson. The following is the inscription, and the lettering is creditable to Robert Blair

      PRENTICE AND PRATICE.
      Is the name Pratice a corruption of the name Prentice. This is a question on which the Sheriff-Substitute of the county is at present called upon to give judgement. An action was raised at the instance of a woman designed Jane Prentice, against Robert Blair, both residing in Alloa. The defence offered by the defender's agent was that the persuer's name was not Prentice but Pratice. The Sheriff ordered proof to be led on this question which was proceeded with on Wednesday last, and his Lordship intimated that be would shortly give his decision. Agent for the persuer : J. G. Wallace ; agent for the defender: John Watson.
