he Right Honourable The Lady Hunsdon
Anne Morgan was born in 1529, the daughter of Sir Thomas Morgan of Arkestone, Herefordshire, and his wife Elizabeth Whitney.
Her ancestry can be traced through the Touchet family, Barons Audley, to Constance Plantagenet, Countess of Kent. Constance was the daughter of Edmund, Duke of York, and Anne was therefore a descendant of Edward III.
She married Henry Carey on 21 May 1545, and her husband was later created 1st Baron Hunsdon in 1559. The couple were parents to twelve children, and both Anne and Henry were shown great favor by Queen Elizabeth I.
As Lady Hunsdon, she was a Lady of the Privy Chamber to Queen Elizabeth, and when her husband died in 1596, she was granted a pension from the Exchequer. She was also given the keepership of Somerset House for life.
It is she who erected the magnificent monument to her husband in Westminster Abbey, and when she died in 1607, Lady Hunsdon was buried with him.
