Chris Genneken (b. 1893) states the following:
"He [Christian Genneken] was my grandfather and married to Wilhelmina van der Ben, my grandmother. Their wedding date is June 8, 1868. It is documented by a memorial drawn by William Andrew [sic] [Willem Antonie], my grandfather's brother. It is a beautiful piece of pen work, and is, despite its age, perfectly legible. My grandfather died in 1871 when my father was about two years old. He was a very religious man and with his brother was involved in charitable works...."

According to Chris Genneken (b. 1893), "My grandmother [Wilhelmina van der Ben] always wore black and was very religious. She was a very strong minded woman, very capable and independent. She always had English peppermints, oranges and Port wine in the house. She was very fond of cologne, which she spread on a folded hankerchief [sic] and moistened her face with it. I still have the crystal flacon which contained the perfume....After a short time she began to fail and moved to an old ladies' home [Eudskis] where she died in 1902."
