About Johan Balthasar Fetterman

His parents, Johnan Kasimir Vetterman and Margaretha Elizabeth Lutz, were married in Dalsheim, west of Worms, Germany. He was 15 when his father died. Mother married second.Christoff Weber. Christoff and Margaretha both died in 1760. [Need to research what was happening in Germany at this time.]

Balthasar was born 2 November 1713, in Neuhausen, Hesse Darm, [Next to Worms] Germany. He married first, Catharine Gertrude Ludwig. Balthasar and Catharine lived and bore their children in Ober-Florsheim. They had seven children. [unable to prove Johannetta b c 1735, John Harman 1743, or Catherine 1747]. It is assumed his wife Catharina died about 1749.

He then took a mistress, Maria Elizabeth Cunst/Kunz, and they had a son, Johan Nicholas Vetterman, b c 1750, bapt 15 Apr 1750 in Catholic Church of Ober-Florsheim. Johan Nicolas' children are found living in Ober-Florsheim, Hessen, Germany in 1840's plus. (see death list of film 0957804.)

"In 1750, Balthasar Vetterman, sons, Casimer [10], Herman [7] and two daughters [Anna Rosina 4 and Catherine 3] sailed from Rotterdam, Holland, on the ship, "Patience," (Captain Hugh Steel) for America, landing at Philadelphia on Aug 11, 1750. [The ship left Rotterdam, stopped at Cowes in England, then on to Phil.]

They found their way north from Philadelphia to what is now the southern end of Lehigh County, settling in the vicinity of Dillingerville & Zionsville. Balthasar, who is the forefather of most of the Fetterman's of the vicinity, settled at what is now Old Zionsville, and on April 11, 1751 married Catharine M. Huft, daughter of Johann George and Margaret Huft. [His will has wife's maiden name as Heiszt and her father was George Heiszt.]

In 1769, he bought the property, lately occupied by Samuel K Fetterman between Vera Cruz and Shimersville, at a sheriffs sale at Easton, the original homestead, a log cabin having been removed.

The two sisters' graves have been located near Dillingersville and that of Balthasar at Lehigh Church."
