Daniel died in or about July 1878, intestate, in Heidelberg Twp., Berks Co., PA, leaving a considerably large estate to his eight chil- dren. Daniel's brother, Michael farmed in Amity Township, now a part of Berks Co., PA. He was a Pietist (Montgomery, 319). (1993: Janice Poelvoorde, 1796 N. 2615 E., Milan, IL 61264, supplied much of the early Ludwig information). The ages of the children are arrived at from the Estate papers of Daniel Ludwig - August 1778, Heidelberg Township, Berks Co., PA. Married Anna, Maria, "Mary" (6328), died 1788. Vol.#6, p.63, Berks Co., Court House, Reading, PA) 2 Daniel LUDWIG (6329), born 4 Jun 1748, Berks, PA, died 9 Jun 1825, Hitler Cemetery, Circleville Twp, Pickaway, OH. SOURCE NOTES: Daniel's parents, Daniel and Mary were natives of Germany. Daniel was associated with Governor Joseph Heister in a store at Reading, Pennsylvania for a number of GenServ Report Output: vitals 4 Sep 1998 years. In the fall of 1806, he left Berks Co., PA and emi- grated to Ohio, with two-horse teams bringing his family, consisting of his wife and nine children, and a small stock of goods, with which he intended to open a store here. With this object in view, he erected a large brick house which is now the residence of (his son) Jacob Ludwig, in one portion of which the store was to be kept. But three of his sons, on whose aid he depended, died and the store was never estab- lished, the goods being disposed of to the neighbors. The house alluded to - a view which is elsewhere given - was built in 1809, and is without doubt, the oldest brick house in Pickaway County. Mr. Ludwig, on his arrival here, pur- chased a half section of land (Section 32 in the Southeast corner of what is now Circleville Township) a portion of which is now owned by Jacob Ludwig, and subsequently enteres lands in this and adjoining counties, until he became the owner of about three thousand acres. He was the original owner of the land where the town of Logan, Hocking County (Ohio) now stands. Daniel was married three times: 1778 to Applona Miller (1760-1787), 3 sons, 1 dau.; 1788 to Eve Griesemer (1766-1800), 2 sons; 1802 to Elizabeth Shupert (1776-1816), 1 son & 5 daughters. Daniel Ludwig came from Berks Co., PA in fall of 1806 and purchased section thirty-two, which had been entered by Robert F. Slaughter, being situated in what is now the south-east corner of Circleville Township. His son, Jacob Ludwig, still lives on the old homestead - the fine brick mansion built many years ago by his father, being the first in the county constructed of that material. Jacob Hitler and his brother now own the farms directly north of Ludwig's, on which they have lived many years. Their father came to this county as early as 1798. Married first, 11 Mar 1788, Berks, PA, Mary, Eva GRIESEMER (5924), born 12 Nov 1766, Berks, PA, died 21 Oct 1800, Berks, PA, daughter of Casper GRIESEMER (6332) and Rebecca (6333). Married second, 1778, Appelona MILLER (6346), born 6 Mar 1760, died 14 May 1787, PA, daughter of Michael MILLER (6351) and Susannah (6352). Married third, 1802, Berks, PA, Elizabeth SHUPERT (6355), born 3 Mar 1776, Berks, PA, died 3 May 1816, Hitler Cemetery, Circleville Twp, Pickaway, OH, daughter of John SHUPERT (6365) and Elizabeth (6366). 3 Catharina LUDWIG (6652), born 16 Nov 1751, Berks, PA.
