James Cox, Jr.
James McIlwain Cox, Jr., resident of Greenwood, S.C., husband of Mary Fowler Cox died March 17, 2014.
Born in Greenwood June 9, 1923, he was the son of the late James McIlwain Cox, Sr., and Carolyn Bradley Cox.
James attended schools in Troy and Greenwood. He graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina. James volunteered and served in the U.S. Army in WW II in the South West Pacific Theater, the Philippines, and New Guinea. He was a farmer, a registered forester and owned forest products manufacturing facilities.
James lived most of his life in Troy, where he was a lifetime member of the Troy Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years are two sons, James McIlwain Cox, III (Jackie), and Emmett Fowler Cox of Greenwood, three daughters, Carolyn Cox Hillman (Ed) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Cox Rube (David) and Dr. Ramoth Cox Horvath (Dr. Joe) of Columbia, SC, five grandchildren, Stephanie Rube of Greensboro, NC, Ashley Rube of Chapin, SC, Bradley Cox of Clemson, SC, James and Brian Hillman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Emmett Foster Cox.
The Cox Family thanks three very dear caregivers Shirley Lewis, Patsy Crawford and Nicole Harling who faithfully and lovingly cared for James several years. Many thanks also to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Veteran's Administration.
A private family Memorial Service will be held at the Troy Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with burial in the Troy Cemetery. The Reverend John Paul Marr will officiate.
