Terrell Emerson Jopes was the son of Guy Emerson and Legon Megehee Jopes. He had one sister, Sylvia Jopes Sanders. He grew up and attended school in Picayune and DeRidder, La., where he graduated from high school in 1950. He received his BS degree from McNeese State University and his MS degree in Horticulture from Louisiana State University. He owned wholesale and retail greenhouses and also was a horticultural supplies salesman and taught school in Picayune and Bogalusa, La. Terrell was a veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps in Korea.
Terrell was married to Mary Joy Wylie Jopes. They had five children: Samuel Cole Jopes, Lisa Jopes Subat, Paul Wylie Cooper, Anna Cooper Cash and Amy Cooper Frierson. He had ten grandchildren: Jennifer Jopes Cacioppo, Emily Jopes, Lydia and Claire Subat, Joshua Frierson, Kristen Frierson Feeback, Melissa Cooper Powell, Joy Cash Thompson, Julie Cash Pitman and Jennifer Cash Vicknair. There were nine great-grandchildren: Leah, Carsyn, Ally and Anna Cacioppo, Jordan Cash, Aiden Frierson, Hallie Elise Powell, Miriam Joyce Vicknair and Trenton Morgan Thompson.
He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church and at the time of his death was a member of First United Methodist Church, both in Picayune. He wa an active member of the Pearl River County Historical Society, an avid historian and outdoorsman.
