James Lowry Pressly was the 1st of five sons and the eldest of eleven children of Rev. James Hearst Pressly and Julia Mabel [née Lowry] Pressly. James was named for his maternal grandfather, Rev. James Robert Alexander Lowry.
James served in the World War I from November 27th 1917 to August 8th 1919, as a 1st Lieut., 11th Infantry, 5th Division .
He was married to Mary Love Babington; with whom he had a daughter, Mary Love. James had a practice as a physician in Statesville.
Pressly Elementary on Broad Street in Statesville is named in honor of the Pressly Family for donating the land on which it is built. This donation of land was made by their daughter, Mary Love.
