MR. ROELOF MULDER ONE OF SIOUX CENTER'S OLDEST CITIZENS, ANSWERED THE SUMMONS OF DEATH
Mr. Roelof Mulder, 84 years of age died at his home Saturday afternoon at one o'clock following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 4 at 1 o'clock in the residence and 1:30 o'clock in the Second Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. M. Keuning officiated. Interment was in the Sioux Center cemetery.
Mr. Mulder was born in Uttel, Netherlands, Province of Gelderland, on February 15, 1854. He came to America 71 years ago. He was married to Alice Bronkhorst. Nine children were born to them, two of whom have preceded him in death, Grietje at the age of 4 years and Tom at the age of 18 years.
The surviving children are Ben of Doon, Ia., Albert of Hull, Ia., Mrs. Ed Van Maanen of Hull. Jim of Alton, Mrs. Dick Westra of bellflower, Calif.; Gerrit of Haysprings, Nebr.. and Mrs. Don Hartung of Pipestone, Minn. He also leaves 30 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters mourn Mr. Mulder's death. They are Gerrit Mulder of Waupun, Wisc., Will Mulder of Alto. Wisc., Mrs. Ida Heideman of Wisconsin, and Mrs. Pietje Gerritson of Rock Valley.
Prior to his retirement 22 years ago Mr. Mulder was engaged in farming, having farmed at New Holland, S.D. 17 years and at Sioux Center 28 years. He was a man of pleasing personality and highly respected by a large circle of friends His general health had been good until just recently. He was blest with a rugged constitution.
