CEDAR SPRINGS -- Mae Jerene (Van Asselt) Oppenneer, 90, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Cedar Springs and Belmont, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Holland Home, Fulton Manor. She was a member of Cedar Springs United Methodist Church, the Cedar Springs Women's Club, and was the original Red Flannel seamstress forming the business Clippercraft. She also worked for Dr. Teusink for 18 years. She served as the 1994 grand marshal in the Red Flannel Day Parade.
Her husband, Raymond, preceded her in death in 1987.
Surviving are her children, Bernard Oppenneer, and Jerald Oppenneer, both of Belmont; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Van Esselt of Ruskin, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Lester officiating. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visiting is one hour before and after the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Holland Home, Fulton Manor, or Cedar Springs United Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are by the Bliss-Witters Cedar Chapel.
