THOMAS not mentioned in the 1730 will of Francis Rountree. IS HE A SON?
Per Sally Moore Koestler, College Station TX ((XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)):
"The first record that I have located of the Rowntree name in Virginia is 4 Nov. 1685 when Charles Rowntree was granted a patent for 350 acres in the Upper Parish of Nanzamund. They would have to been in Virginia at least three years prior to this date."
The 5 immigrants were Charles Rowntree b. bef 1664; Robert Rowntree b. abt 1665; Francis Rowntree b. 1649; Thomas Rowntree b.; Elizabeth Rowntree.
30 Oct 1686 Robert and Francis Roundtree were granted 490 acres in Nansemond Co formerly granted to James Peters 10 Nov 1678. Pat. Book 7, page 527 Thomas Roundtree and Elizabeth Roundtree names appear on doc.
26 Apr 1698 Robert and Francis Rountree were granted 400 acres in Nansemond Co. formerly granted to James Peters 10 Nov 1678. Pat. Book 9, Page 142.
Some records show his place of birth as Yorkshire, England others as north Ireland.

Laura E Tully 2722 Sunnybrook Rd,Jacksonville, Fl 32216- (904)- 641-4383 and also from
Bill Kittrell, Greenville, NC
QUESTION: Is this will for this Francis Rountree or his son Francis Rountree m. Susan Ames? Robert and Thomas R. are not mentioned in this will.
*Charles is also a son but returned to Ireland and stayed there. His son Thomas returned later to the Colonies. See Note below.
The following was attributed to his son Francis, but the time does not fit.
Move to Virginia 1634* from England. *Francis I born in 1649 - this must be an earlier Francis, maybe related.
Owned 433 acres in Nansemond, VA - this might be for Francis b. 1649
died at age 62 in Chowan Co during 1740.- this would fit with Francis b. 1678.
NOT PROVEN: Are the children his or of his son Thomas. Thomas secured the right to headright for them. I seems that those people imported were for the most part his siblings, with the exception of Ann.
NOTE FOR FRANCIS ROWNTREE
Joseph, son of Thomas Rountree (son of Charles) writes: "When William the Third, King of England, dethroned his father-in-law, King James II, King James went to Ireland and raised a large army of the Irish, thinking to get himself reinstated on the throne of England. William also raised a large army at the same time and went to Ireland. Two brothers of Rowantrees went over in his army, after the battle of Boynewater, when William's army conquered James' forces.
William then disbanded a part of his army. The two Rowantrees were in the part disbanded and they concluded to stay in Ireland. One of them stopped in the south of ireland and married among the Celtic race of people, or natives of the country, but little is known of him or his generation. The other one settled in the north of Ireland and married among the Anglo-Saxons, who previously to that time had populated that part of Ireland, raised a family and in time they multiplied and became numerous. According to the author of the book (author and book not mentioned - hc) the 2nd brother is Francis I. Francis I b. 1649 m. 1670 d. 1723 - wife Sarah Coleman b. 1655, d. (aft - hc) 1723."
The following is a Myth per Sally Moore Koestler
The story goes on to tell how Francis I and wife Sarah along with their 7 sons were going to the colonies when Charles came down with smallpox and wasn't allowed to board the ship. Sarah stays with Charles to nurse him but Francis I and the other 6 sons go on. Charles recovers and does go to the colonies but sails back to Ireland to marry his sweet heart and ends up staying in Ireland. His son Thomas leaves Ireland for the colonies and that is where the author's family ties in. The book goes on to say that Francis I and his sons immigrate before 1698 but has found earlier records of Rountrees in Virginia, but he can't connect them.
From other informatoin (Bible Records) it was Eva Sturgiss who stayed behind.
