See KENMORE AND THE LEWISES, pp. 7 & 8:
Colonel John Lewis III, eldest son of Councilor John Lewis, Jr., and hiswife inherited the Warner Hall estate, which by this time had become oneof the important social centers of Virginia.
In 1748, at the age of 54, he was appointed a member of the King'sCouncil and he continued to occupy his seat in the General Assembly untilhis death.
According to "Ancestral Records and Portraits" some say he was born in1702. He resided in Spottsylvania County, Virginia. According to"Americans of Gentle Birth", he was born in 1683.
This John Lewis is usually referred to as Col. John Lewis of "WarnerHall".
I am researching the portion of the Lewis of Warner Hall line through Charles Lewis "of The Byrd"(1696-1779). My primary interest at this time is more information concerning William Lewis (b. Dec. 16, 1780 in Granville County, NC). If you have
