Ezekiel Hawes, Jr. of Kemper County, MS obtained a land patent from the Columbus Land Office on Feb. 27, 1841 (Document No. 21789.) The land was the W1/2SE1/4 Section 31, township 10-N, Range 17E for a total of 80.42 acres in Kemper County, MS. Total purchase price was $100.53 and the original date of sale was Nov. 27, 1835.

According to Elizabeth Haws Hazlip, Zeke married Nancy Jane Caraway, daughter of Alexander Caraway and Martha ? in Kemper County. They had the twins (I am not sure they are twins- rfc), Joseph and Mary, and she was pregnant with James Ezekiel Haws when Ezekiel, Jr. died. She remarried J. P. W. Barfield and they moved to Copiah County, MS at some point.
