THOMAS DE MULTON, son and heir by 1st wife, was aged 21 on 4 May 1246,and had livery of his lands January 1246/7. In 1255-56 he fined 1/2 markfor respite of knighthood till Christmas, and in 1256 had acquittance ofcommon summons in Cumberland and Essex. In January 1258 he (or hishalf-uncle Thomas of Gilsland) was summoned with the rest of the NorthernBarons to go to the aid of the King of Scots. In the struggle between theKing and the Barons he sided with the latter. He was summoned again forservice in Wales, 1277 (when he went with the Earl of Lincoln) and 1282;in 1287 (as Thomas de Multon the elder) to a military council atGloucester, on the way to further service in Wales, and in 1291 forservice in Scotland.
He appears to have m. three times: 1stly, Ida, whose parentage is notknown, by whom he had issue surviving her in January 1256/7; 2ndly,Elizabeth or Isabel, widow of John DE MUNEMUTH, who was living in 1276and dead in 1278; 3rdly, before 1288, Margaret, whose parentage is notknown.
