Thus we have the third JOHN DE DRAYCOTE (XI) in succession. We find aninteresting episode involving him, when in 1399 we hear of him sellinghis son, John, to William de Ipstones, lord of Ipstones for four-scorepounds. This is not as drastic as it sounds however! What it meant wasthat William de Ipstones had the right of arranging the younger John’smarriage, and also, should the elder John die whilst his son was still aminor, then William de Ipstones would take over the curatorship of theestate, (and most importanly all the profits accrued). We also hear ofthis John in 1414 as "John Draycote of Paynesley squyer" since he wasreported to Henry V as one of those who had accepted a livery of clothfrom Edmund Ferrers of Chartley. It is notable here that the "de" in "deDraycote" has been dropped, for England was now becoming more English.John was dead by Easter 1422 and he left his widow, Agnes, daughter of aGascon of Yorkshire. Together they had, apparently with daughters, a sonJohn, (who must have died in early youth), and thus his younger brothertook over.
