!This ex-queen, obliged to entertain the French court in one of her second husband's (Count de la Marche) castles, took offence at not being asked to sit down beside her unwelcome guests, and, when they had gone, showed her spite by destroying all the furniture they had used, as if polluted by their sojourn. The husband needed little stirring up to make him renounce the homage he owed to that young prince (Alphonse of Poitiers), whose heritage was climed by the count's stepson, Richard of Cornwall. [Leaders & Landmarks, Vol. II, p. 76]
!Only child of Aymer, Count d'Angouleme (and by her mother, granddaughter of Louis VI of France), was early betrothed to Hugh de Lusignan, surnamed le Brun, 10th Count de la Marche and Poitou. In the year 1200, King John, visiting the castle of the Count d'Eu, Lusignan's uncle, met Isabella, who resided there
previous to her marriage; and during the absence of Lusignan in the Holy Land, with the consent of her parents, but without that of the Count d'Eu or of her own, King John carried her off and made her his queen. They were married at Bordeaux, Aug 24, 1200. Isabella was then 15. Henry, her son, was born in 1206/7; the Princess Johanna in 1210. After a long period of war and discord, Lusignan made peace with King John, on condition that he should have the Princess Johanna, Isabella's eldest daughter, for his wife; and she was
forthwith sent to his court to be educated, Oct 20, 1214 (age 4); but in 1216 King John died. Isabella returned to her native city of Augouleme and married her first betrothed. After some delay, Henry III recovered his sister Johanna, who was married to Alexander II at York in 1221, when she was 11. Isabella died in 1229. [The Bruces and the Cumyns, p. 511]
