[Rev. James Odell]Some genealogists confuse Nancy Ann of English with a cousin Polly Ann, daughter of Humphrey King, Nancy Ann's brother. The two cousins were quite close and the middle name Ann of the females complicate the matter, but the two are distinct."A History of Churches in Casey Co, Kentucky, "ed. Paul W. Patton, names a Nancy Slone as a charter member of Mt. Olive Christian Church, pastored by James Slone in 1864. The name Ann is not listed, even though both parents and several brothers and sisters are. The Census of 1850 names Ann as wife of James. The letter to N. P. Matthews from Linda [Sloan] names Humphry King's mother as Nancy. The Pike Co, Indiana "Index of Marriages" lists Alexander Sloan, brother to Humphry King marrying a second time in 1922, and he gives the following information about his parents. Father: James, born in Scotland; Mother Nancy Ann King, born in Virginia. Nancy & Ann are clearly the same person.According to tax recorders, Nancy's grandfather, John King, was in Kentucky by 1790. Was John's son English still in Virginia, or was Alexander mistaken, as he may have been concerning James' birthplace?
