Deceased Name: JEANETTE F. ROGERS
KITTRELL-Martha Jeanette Fuller Rogers of Kittrell passed peacefully into her heavenly home on Sunday, February 27, 2011 with her family by her side. She was born August 21, 1938, the daughter of Clifton Fuller and Cornelia Hayes Fuller. She attended Epsom High School, graduating Valedictorian of her class. Soon after graduation, she married John Allison Rogers, her husband of 54 years, and actively participated in the family business of both agriculture and real estate.
Jeanette was blessed with the gift of song. She shared her beautiful voice from the age of 3 with her community and fellow church members of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, participating in and soloing in various choirs. Jeanette was a member of the Plank Chapel Trio for many years. She performed for numerous weddings and funerals in the community. Jeanette also served her church in many other capacities, most notably as President of the United Methodist Women for many years and most recently she enjoyed participating in the Senior Circle.
Jeanette was an avid reader and loved to travel. Her extensive travels often involved collecting antique carnival glass and sharing that passion with numerous friends from all over the world. Of all her travels, her favorite place to visit was her summer home at White Lake, NC, where many family memories of swimming and boating were made with children and grandchildren. Whether at home, church or traveling, music always played an active part in her life as she generously shared her gift of song with those around her.
Jeanette and John were blessed with 5 children. As her home was always filled with music, all of her children were introduced to it at an early age. Jeanette, her children and two of her grandchildren recently performed together at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, John, Jeanette is survived by her children, Cliff Rogers and wife Stephanie, Ann R. Freeman and husband Gary, Sue R. Smith and husband Darden, Ellen R. Allen and husband Ben, Carol R. Monahan and husband John. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amelia Rogers, Lydia Rogers Byrd and husband Andrew, Meredith and Claire Freeman, Hampton and Roger Smith, John Allen, and Josh and Jacey Monahan.
A memorial service was held at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11am with the Rev. Dr. Carolyn Roy officiating. A visitation in the church fellowship hall followed the service. At all other times the family received friends at the home on 2543 Rocky Ford Road in Kittrell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made either to the Plank Chapel United Methodist Choir Fund, c/o Darlene Ranes, 2120 S. Lynnbank Rd., Kittrell, NC 27544 or to the American Cancer Society, Vance County Relay for Life, PO Box 914, Henderson, NC 27536.
