NOT CERTAIN LEANNAH IS HIS DAUGHTER.
Per Columbus County Recollections and Records, Page 9:
"Six Hundred and forty Acres of Land which Land was granted to Joseph Sowl in the year 1735 and by him conveyed to John Gibbs one other Tract of two Hundred Acres adjioning the above on the East side thereof and which was granted to John Gibbs also one other Tract of three Hundred Twenty Acres adjoining the first mentioned tract on the West side thereofincluding the marsh. Also one other piece or parcel of land on the Jacky Branch patented by John Powell and by him conveyed to Edmond Holmes (William H. Masterson, ed., John Gray Blount Papers, III {Raleigh: State Department of Archives and History, 1965}, pp.589-90)
Joseph Sowl received several land grants in what is now Columbus County. It is possible that Soules Swamp was named for him, since he owned land which may have included the swamp.

I think I have a possible parent for Leannah Soule, b. 1738. I think her
father is the sea captain Joseph Soule, who was sailing out of Perth-Amboy NJ
in 1730, but had removed to NC about 1731. Joseph Soule was b. 1701 and
probably died about 1740. I think he had two wives, the second one would be
the mother of Leannah, b. 1738
