Lelia Smith Cocke Bagbey was a graduate of St Catherine's School,Richmond, Virginia and Hollins College, Roanoke, Virginia. She alsoreceived a Master's Degreem in History from the University of Virginia.Hollins College was founded in 1842 by her great-grandfather, CharlesLewis Cocke. She served as a 1st Lieutenant in the WAAC in World War IIand then as Personnnel Control Officer of the Allied Translator andInterrogator Section of McArthur's staff in Australia and the Philipines.She was president of the Roanoke Junior League and When I (William B.Bagbey) was stationed in Germany she was chairman of the Conference ofAmerican Women's Activities in Europe. She was killed in a single caraccident in Roanoke, Virginia on 26 March 1983.
