WILL OF SAMUEL MOFFATT
In the name of God amen, I Samuel Moffatt of Chester District SoCa, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, but weak in body, and calling to mind the uncertainty of life, and being desirous to dispose of all such worldy estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, do make and ordain this my last will in manner of following, that is to say:
1st. I desire that my just debts & funeral expenses be paid.
2nd. I give unto my daughter Martha Moffatt Two hundred Dollars.
3rd. I give unto my daughter Peggy McDill Two hundred Dollars.
4th. I give unto my daughter Jane McDill Two hundred Dollars.
5th. I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Curry Two hundred Dollars.
6th. I give unto my daughter Sarah Wylie Two hundred Dollars.
7th. I give unto my grand son Samuel Miller the son of my daughter Mary Ann,
Two hundred Dollars, but if he should die before receiving this and whatever may herein after be bequeathed to him, and leave no children, then the legacies herein given to the said Samuel Miller, to be equally divided among all my children before thereinafter named.
8th. All the rest and residue of my estate, what nature and quality soever it may be, not herein before disposed of, I desire may be equally divided among all my children share and share alike Viz: The heirs of Wm Moffatt, John Moffatt, James Moffatt, David Moffatt, Martha Moffatt, Peggy McDill, Jane McDill, Elizabeth Curry, Sarah Wylie and the said Samuel Miller.
9th. I authorize my executor hereinafter named to sell the Plantation on which
I formerly lived containing by Resurvey Two hundred and twenty six acres
Situated in said State & district on the waters of Little Rocky creek and bounded by the lands of Christopher Strong, Robert Mills and others, at whatever time and on the terms and conditions he may think most profitable and make good & sufficient titles to said land.
Lastly, I do constitute my son in law, Thomas McDill the executor of this my last Will and Testament, but if he should die or remove before my decease
or before the completion of said executorship, I constitute and appoint my son in law, John L Wylie the executor of this my last Will and testament.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this first day of November Anno Domini 1844.

Died on the 9th day of February at the residence of Capt. James McDill in Chester District, Mr. Samuel Moffatt in the 85th year of his age. He was for many years the oldest man in connection with the A.R. Church at Hopewell. (Obit. collection by Lowry Ware of Due West, SC.) [2]
Samuel was probably about 3 years old when his parents brought him from Ireland to SC in 1772. For unknown reasons, Samuel is not mentioned in his father's will.
