Born Dec. 14, 1918, to the late Lucion Victor and Sallie Scruggs Blanton, he was a native of Cleveland County. He was retired from Ora Mill and was a member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, where he was the bass singer in the Blanton Quartet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harlan and Collis Blanton, and two sisters, Arvie Blanton and Virdie Pearson.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jurell Bryant Blanton of the home; three sons, James Wayne Blanton and wife Linda of Lattimore, Earnest Carroll Blanton and wife Brenda of Shelby, and Michael Victor Blanton and wife Debbie of Lawndale; two daughters, Brenda Rhyne and husband Buddy of Cherryville and Renee Wright and husband Ted of Ellenboro; one brother, Ralph Blanton and wife Selma of Shelby; and five sisters, Estell Pruitt, Geneva Ledbetter and husband Ray, Ethel Ledbetter, and Grace Francis and husband Clem, all of Shelby, and Virginia Holland of Forest City; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
