Daniel Wayne "Dan-O" Combest , 63, left us on Thursday, December 6, 2012 following a long illness. He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys Ann Combest and brother, Thomas Michael Combest . He is survived by his life partner of 17 years, Gay Williams; father Philip Combest of Palatka, FL; sisters Phyllis (Barry) Lewis of San Diego, CA and Susan Konrad of Reston, VA; son Daniel Wayne Hinkelman, Monticello, GA, and daughter Callie Denise Clegg of Covington, GA; stepsons Jason Maddy of Washington, Jordan Williams of El Paso, TX, and Jacob Williams of Ormond Beach, FL; as well as one niece, four nephews and numerous cousins. Daniel was born in Somerset, Kentucky in 1949 and fell in love with Daytona Beach when his family moved here in 1964. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army and upon his return home worked as a commercial fisherman and long haul trucker before establishing himself as a master neon craftsman with MelWebb and Don Bell Signs. He created many of the neon signs still shining brightly on Daytona Beach's motels and business establishments as well as on display at Disney World and in Las Vegas.
