David Roddey and his wife came to America from County Antrim, Ireland on October 8, 1788 on the ship "Volunteer". David first came to America during the Revolutionary War when he was fighting for the English Army in the army of Colonel Banastre Tarleton. He returned home and then came to America, landing in Charleston, S.C. David and his brothers , William and John, left County Antrim on October 8, 1788 on the ship "Volunteer". They brought church letters signed by Rev. Peter McMullen. He worked his way up the Pee Dee River by teaching, finally settling in York Co. He left Ireland because of religious persecution, came to America, settled at Rocky Creek near Harmony Station. He was a man of means, leaving a large estate.
