HENDERSON -- Willie Arthur "Billy" Kittrell Jr., 77, a former resident of 85 S. Chavis Road, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in a local nursing home. A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late Willie Arthur and Ethel Hayes Kittrell and was the widow of Amelia Pace Kittrell.
He was a lifetime member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he received a B.S. in textiles, a former town commissioner of Kittrell, a former member of the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department, and a retired employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns.
Kittrell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 17th Infantry Regiment in Okinawa during World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Kris R. Meyers. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Gail Kittrell of Henderson; three sons, William Ted Kittrell of Henderson and Dan Arthur Kittrell and Gene Pace Kittrell, both of Kittrell; two sisters, Elizabeth K. Taylor of Yorktown, Va., and Mary Ann K. Satterwhite of Henderson; four brothers, Bobby Kittrell of Henderson, Dr. Ben Kittrell of Florence, S.C., and Frank Kittrell and Jerry Kittrell, both of Goldsboro; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Ted and Sharon Kittrell, 5515 U.S. 158 Business.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Thomas Kittrell, Brad Satterwhite, Lawrence Pulley, James Cole, Herbie Grissom and Winston Kerley. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Mildred Smith, P.O. Box 185, Kittrell, N.C. 27544.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
