BURIED TREASURE
Kinion Wright was one of the sixteen children of Stephen Wright and Amelia Ann Fowler Wright. he was born in Gum Swamp community of Williams Township. Through inheritance and his own industry, Kinion acquired a large tract of land.
When he went to war in the 1860s, he hid his money in an iron pot in a hollow log. He asked his brother-in-law, Isaac Fowler to check the site. When Kinion returned form serving the Confederacy, he found only one coin missing from the cache. The coin, later found at the other end of the log, apparently had been moved there by an animal intruder.
In later years, Kinion hid much money near the same site. Upon his death he was buried, according to his request, near his money. To this day, his is the only grave at the site which is located west of Iron Hill, south of Grissett Swamps, north of the Tabor Road, and east of the Gaskin farm.
Today, there are many holes surrounding the grave -evidence of treasures seekers' visits. In the 1930s, rumors were circulated about a local man who hired a man with a $9,000 money needle to locate the treasure. Shortly thereafter he bought a farm and built a large house. Perhaps he found the buried treasure.
