Donnie Woodrow Thompkins, 87, of 16th Avenue, died Sunday, April 8, 2001,at home after an illness.
He was born in Conway, a son of the late Eli and Cora Ray Thompkins.
He was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Conwayand a member and teacher of the Men's Anex Bible Class.
He retired as a postman from the U.S. Post Office after 30 years. Heoperated Thompkins Locksmith Service since his retirement.
He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 111 and wasawarded Outstanding Legionnaire in 1979. He was a member of Forty andEight. He received a National Safety Council Award for outstandingcommunity service in 1979. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alleen Hardee Thompkins; two daughters, JeanSlaughter and her husband, John, of Garden City Beach and Saundra Bondand her husband, Dr. Richard Bond, of Conway; a sister, Evelyn Britt ofCharleston; four grandchildren, Sharon Williams, Dr. Mary Ellen Csanadi,R. Howard Bond II and Austin Edwards Bond; and a great-grandchild, AlexCsanadi.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Conway.The Rev. Steve Hadden and the Rev. J. Anderson Bass Jr. will officiate.Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge.
