    BLOOMINGTON - Hans H. Stroink, M.D., 82, of 1915 E. Cloud St., Bloomington, died at 1:33 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 27, 2002) at his residence.
    His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Pastor Thomas R. Daly officiating. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, McLean. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington.
    Memorials may be made to the Central Illinois Neuroscience Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
    He was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Willingrade, Germany, the son of Hermann and Anna Harm Stroink. He married Victoria Kraus on Oct. 12, 1946. She survives.
    Also surviving are two sons, Hermann Rutger Stroink, Ellsworth; and Walter William (Jill Archer) Stroink, Bloomington; three daughters, Ann R. (Gary Shultz) Stroink, Bloomington; Shirley M. (Brian) Joondeph, Auckland, New Zealand; and Susan C. (J.L.) Pickering, Bloomington; and one brother, Uwe Stroink, Pinneberg, Germany.
    Survivors also include 15 grandchildren, Lacey, Hans, Kirsten, Leif, Jordan, Tanner, Jackie, Katie, Andrea, Stephanie, Christopher, Eric, Alex, Neil and Christine.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Rutgert Stroink.
    Dr. Stroink left war-torn Germany after World War II to become an American citizen and to raise his family in the United States. He had his degree from the University of Munich in 1945. He had his post-graduate training in pathology from 1946 to 1953. He spent a year on a rotating internship in Seattle General Hospital, Seattle, Wash. He later moved to Joliet as an associate pathologist for Silver Cross, St. Joseph's of Joliet; and McNeal Memorial Hospitals of Berwyn. In 1958, he started Clinical and Pathology Laboratories, later called Stroink Pathology Laboratories, Inc. Stroink Pathology Laboratories was sold to National Health Labs/Laboratory Corporation of America in 1995. He remained as consultant for Laboratory Corporation of America until 1997 when he retired.
    Dr. Stoink was a diplomat of the Board of Anatomic Pathology in 1955 and the Board of Clinical Pathology in 1956. He was elected as a fellow to the College of American Pathologists in 1957 and served until 1992. In 1992, he was elected Emeritus Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. He was president of the 1975 medical staff at Mennonite Hospital; president of the McLean County Medical Society from 1978; and medical laboratory director at BroMenn Regional Medical Center from 1959 to 1992. Dr. Stroink was pathologist at Mennonite Hospital, Brokaw Hospital, Eureka Hospital, Hoopeston Hospital, Gibson City Hospital, John Warner Hospital, Fairbury Hospital, Paxton Community Hospital, Hopedale Hospital, St. Josephs Hospital and St. James Hospital. He was coroner's physician for McLean County and deputy coroner for Will County.
    Dr. Stroink was an avid gardener and bicyclist, riding to and from work very frequently. He believed very strongly in keeping physically fit.
    Because of Dr. Stroink's interest in stroke, he donated the building and property located at 1015 S. Mercer Ave., to the Central Illinois Neuroscience Foundation, committed to medical education and research. Dr. Stroink served on the board of the foundation until his death.
