1. From the Athens Democrat. 'Bradford Argus', Thusday January 20, 1876:
"MRS. SALLY GORE, widow of the late Abram GORE, of Sheshequin, crossed the dark river a few days ago, in her eighty-third year.
She migrated from Massachusetts at an early day with her two brothers. They came the whole distance in a one-horse lumber wagon
drawn by one horse. They stopped in this valley and stayed all night with David BROWN is a hewed log home near where the Valley
House now stands, which was subsequently used as a store-room by Misses Kinney & Salterlee. She married Abram GORE, with
whom she lived until his death, and raised a family of six children -- four daughters and two sons -- who survive her, with the exception
of her oldest daughter Harriet, late wife of Capt. W. J. LENT. The old homestead, in which she retained her third interest, is now occupied
by her youngest son, C. C. GORE. For the last few years she has been living with her daughters, and died at the home of her daughter
Fanny, on Pond Hill, who is the wife of Wm. BULL, Esq. Deceased was a kind-hearted and benevolent women, loved and respected by all.
We never shall forget her kind treatment of us when a barefoot boy. We used ot visit her some and enjoy a good romp and we would then
receive as large a piece of the bread and butter or cake, or as kind a word or smile, as her own boys. She lived to see many changes in
our beautiful valley. Her religion consisted of the kind sets to her neighbors, not empty forms and ceremonies."
