1. Both of Homer's sons died while in the Army during WWI - the only military casualties from Concord throughout the war. One died in France, the other in Michigan but both from the Spanish Flu epidemic which started in America with the Army Calvary burning horse manure. Soldiers carried the sickness to the battlefronts and then back to America. Millions died with some cities in America having 2,000 or more deaths in one day. The young to middle age healthy adults were mostly affected. Lungs were infected causing the sick to die from drowning in their own liquids filling their lungs. Many deaths occurred within a few days of becoming sick.
