Mother died when he was 5. Raised by father's sister Morton and her
husband Thomas Epperson, on farm near Princeton, Illinois. Enlisted
Regular Army in 1917 shortly after entry into World War I. Fought in
France in I & R Platoon, 59th Infantry Regiment ( Silver Star, Purple
Heart ). Sergeant, Army of Occupation. Army appointment to West Point in
1919, graduated 1922. M.S., Electrical Engineering, Yale University, 1928.
Lieutenant to Colonel, Army Signal Corps: Fort Monmouth, Philippines,
California, San Antonio, and several tours in elecronics research &
development at Wright Field, Ohio. Communications Officer, 12th TAC,
invasion of southern France, World War II. Postwar to MacArthur's
headquarters in Tokyo. From Army to Air Force on its separation in 1947.
Commander of Watson Laboratories ( radar development ) in New Jersey.
Retired in 1952 as Brigadier General, Deputy Commander of Wright Air
Development Center. Lived first in Boulder, Colorado and then at Air Force
Village, San Antonio, where he died in 1981.
