Note that there is no way of telling if William was the eldest son, but he was almost certainly the eventual heir.  If, as I have portrayed from a conservative reading of the A2A dates, Nicholas was the eldest son, then he might well have died without issue by 1415, when William had some sort of conveyance concerning Bradfield and other properties.  This may have been the case, which would explain why William was known as "of Bovey Tracy" in 1401.
