[Burke's Peerage]
---
ROGER son and heir of Sir William DE LUMLEY (probably by a daughter of Sir Walter DE AUDRE], on his father's death succeeded to property in Little Lumley and elsewhere in the bishopric of Durham which his ancestors had held for several generations. In 1259 he granted to Robert de Briminghill and Agnes his wife, and her heirs, the reversion of lands in Coxhow after the death of Juliane, late wife of -Sir Walter Audre, reserving the rights of Walter de Crawmers and Emma his wife, and her heirs. In May 1268 he is described as knight. In 1277 he joined with his brother-in-law, John de Roseles, in the proffer of the service of two parts of a knight's fee for the barony of Morwick, to be performed by John in the expedition against Llewelyn, Prince of Wales.
He married Sybil, eldest daughter and coheir of Hugh DE MORWICK. He died in or before 1279, and was buried in the church of the Franciscans in Newcastle. His widow married Lawrence DE ST. MAUR. She died 26 July 1298.
