Footnote:  SOLOMON COURTRIGHT, was born in the State of New Jersey in the year 1749.  He served as a private in the Revolutionary War. During the progress of the Revolutionary War when the British troops invaded New Jersey, great consternation seized the inhabitants as the sharp crack of musketry and the roaring of cannon were heard, the family of Solomon Courtright fled from their home and hid in the under-brush to escape from the British soldiers.  About the year 1774, he married Hannah Ayers, of New Jersey, by whom in he had ten children -- three sons and seven daughters -- all of whom lived to rear families.  He died in 1844, in the 95th year of his age, and was buried in Peru Township, Huron County, Ohio.  At about the age of 85, two of his sons and one daughter (Sarah, Andrew Van Sickle's wife) died leaving one son and six daughter living in the year 1861.  On the 18th of June, 1861, they all met together and visited their father's grave for the last time for some of them, and perhaps for all.  The names of his children then living,  together with their ages and residences, are as follows: -- Catharine Davenport, 75 years old, Wood County, Ohio; Elizabeth Eastman, 72 years old, Wisconsin; Hannah Van Sickle, 70 years old, Delaware County, Ohio; William Courtright, 68 years old, New Jersey; Osey Stephens, 66 years old, Fulton County, Ohio; Rachel Covert, 65 years old, Norwalk, Huron County Ohio; Phoebe Stephens, 61 years old, Delaware County, Ohio. "The following is the number of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, belongin to each of the daughters now (1861) living:--Catharine Davenport, 10 children 89 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; Elizabeth Eastman, 10 children, 50 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; Hannah Van Sickle, 12 children, 48 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; Rachel Covert, 10 children, 38 grandchildren; Osey Stephens, 7 children, 31 grandchildren; Phoebe Stephens, 13 children, 27 grandchildren; being a total of 63 children, 234 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren -- whole number 321.  The above sisters have been separated from each other upwards of forty years, during which time they suffered hardships and privations, such as none but the oldest pioneers know anything about; and now (1861) they look as healthy and rugged as anyold people found in the country.  The above facts have not their parallel, probably, in Northern Ohio."
