16 May 1781: In the night of 25th ult. [25 April], a party of Indians, about 25, guided by two Tories, crossed the Delaware opposite Minisink. About day break [26 April] they went to the house of Thomas Brink whom they made prisoner with his two little sons... They went to a house where lived two young men named Westbrook and Job who fell a sacrifice to Indians and tories... They made prisoners of Job's wife and a girl aged 13... who were later saved. They next went to Capt. Shimer's who not only made a brave defense but in time was instrumental in causing the Indians to retire across the river...
