----- (Vol. II, p. 114)...While at Ramapo, Mr. Alexander found several other settlers who wished to take leases of the Proprietors and be protected against the Fauconier Company (including five who had already taken leases of Fauconier & Co.). On 13 April 1740 Derick Vandermaker (Wanamaker) and William Ramsay came to New York and showed Alexander and Ashfield two leases.     This transcription does not agree with the dates which we obtained from other researchers.  Possibly the gravestone date has been misread and it should be 1788 instead of 1783. That would make the accepted birthdate of 1706 more likely.
