Salisbury Center, N.Y. - Mr. Kenneth E. Youker, 85, of 114 Oak Mountain Dr., Salisbury Center, died Thursday, August 21, 2008, in Little Falls Hospital, where he had been a patient since August 19. He was born in Dolgeville on July 15, 1923, the son of Earl and Nina (Sponable) Youker, and attended school in Stratford.
A veteran of World War II, he served honorably from May 1943 until he was discharged on January 22, 1946, with the rank of Tech 4. He served with the Headquarters Detachment of the 435th Medical Battalion. He was awarded the following medals for his service: World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Ken was a self-employed logger for many years. His personal hobbies were fishing, puzzles (Cryptograms) and showing various card tricks.
Ken was united in marriage to the former Barbara E. Candage on February 28, 1946, in Rotterdam Junction. Mrs. Youker predeceased him on December 31, 2003.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Dan Bailey, with whom he lived; his sisters, Christine and John Steciak of Dolgeville and Clara Maine of Utica; his brothers, Lendol Youker of Schenectady, Earl Youker, Jr. of Stratford and Harvey Youker of Horseheads; his grandchildren, Eric Barton, Daniel Bailey II and Dana Bailey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leon, Roy and Ivan; and his sisters, Marlene Barnes, Jeanne Snyder and Iva Mae Evaner.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. in the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. There are no calling hours.
