CAR BREAKS TWO FENCES, CABLE; Fails to Make Turn; Metz, Occupant of Car, Is Bruised.
RICEVILLE, IOWA — Frank Teeple, stockbuyer who lived north of Riceville, was killed at 2:20 o'clock Tuesday morning when the car he was driving failed to make a turn east of Taopi village in Minnesota, broke a cable, two fences, went over a ditch, and stopped about 150 feet from the highway.
Sam Metz of Riceville, who was with Teeple, was bruised in the accident and knocked unconscious. About an hour after the crash, he regained consciousness but could not find Teeple. He went to Taopi and got persons to help him in finding the body, which had been thrown about 50 feet from the car.
The accident occurred about 25 miles southeast of Austin on Highway 56 a mile east of Taopi at what is known as cemetery corner, because of a cemetery nearby. The car was traveling east. Metz said he warned Teeple, who was driving about 70 miles an hour, to watch out for a turn. Teeple, who lived in the Riceville vicinity many years, was about 55 years of age.
