   Mr. David Gary Culver, Sr., 68 of RRI Box 1822 Laceycille, Pa, (Black Walnut) passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, 2009, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre after an illness. Born in Meshoppen on October 30, 1940, he was the son of the late Orwin K. and Dorothy L. Gray Culver. Growing up in the Silvara area, near Laceycille, he was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School, Dave joined the United States Army. While in the Army, he served his country overseas. In both France and Vietnam, as well as being stationed in Virginia and California. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Armed services, 11 years in the U.S. Army and 9 years in the Army National Guard. Dave left the Army with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After leaving the military, he was employed at Proctor & Gamble in Mehoopany for 26 years as the Grounds and Service Coordinator, retiring in 1995. During the time while he was working at Procter & Gamble, Dave was also employed by Sam VanDeMark in Laceycille as a heavy equipment operator and for the last few years had been been working for David Heller Excavating of Laceyville. He also enjoyed doing mechanic work at his garage in Silvra, where he did special repairs and also sold used auto parts.
   A very active member of the American Legion post #510 Blackwalnut Pa., Dave was very instumental in the growth of the Route Hall.He,along with a few other members, was a very integral part of the new additions to the post,itself as well as the new bingo hall and banquet hall.

   Mr. David Gary Culver Sr., 68, of RR 1 Box 1822, Laceyville, Pa. (Black Walnut), passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, 2009, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., after an illness.  Dave was born in Meshoppen, Pa. on Oct. 30, 1940, the son of the late Orwin K. and Dorothy L. He, along with a few other members, was a very integral part of the new addition(s) to the post itself, as well as the building of the new bingo and banquet hall. While with the legion, he served on many of the post's committees, as well as serving as the post commander for several years and several terms. Dave was also a member of the 40 and 8, as well as being a member of the Endless Mountains Post 3583 V.F.W. in Mehoopany, Pa. In 2003-2004, he was president of the Band Parent Association for Wyalusing Valley High School. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR racing, rooting for his favorite driver, Ricky Rudd. Dave was a long-time and current member of the shuffle board league at Rought Hall American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and many friends. David was an avid animal lover and greatly enjoyed the company of his dog and three cats. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Dave is survived by: his wife of 41 years, the former Barbara J. Repsher Culver of Black Walnut; his son David (Gary) Culver Jr. of Meshoppen, Pa.; his six daughters, Betsy and Tim Gacha of Meshoppen, Pa., Pamela and Eric Risch of Laceyville, Pa., Deborah and Scott Swenson of Tunkhannock, Pa., Kendra and Herbert Cornelius of Retta, Pa., Jessica Culver, and Marissa Culver, both of Laceyville, Pa.; his 19 grandchildren, Brianna Bennett, Emily and Laura Gacha, Ashley Oswald, Rebecca and Natalie Camp, Jared and Jacob Risch, Brady and Jenna Glass, Madison and Erica Swenson, Joshua Franklin, Taylah Culver, Alexis and Nathan Schrader, David and Emily Cornelius, and Owen Culver; two great-grandchildren, Sydney Friedlander and Shay Gartland; two brothers, Robert Culver of Angola, N.Y., and Philip Culver (Betty Swingle) of Vernon, Pa.; two sisters, Linda (Robert) English of Laceyville, Pa., and Louise Snyder of Mineola Texas; and his extended family of mother-in-law and father-in-law Evelyn and Charles Boyer of Laceyville, Pa., brother-in-law Roger Repsher of Laceyville, Pa., and sister-in-law Carol (Jim) Furman of Wyalusing, Pa.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, from the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, Pa. with Rev. Thomas Davis of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Lacey Street Cemetery in Laceyville, Pa. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa. on from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. Graveside military services will be conducted by: the members of the Rought Hall Post 510 American Legion; Dennis Strong Post 457 American Legion; and the Endless Mountains Post 3583 VFW.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Braintrim Baptist Church, Church Street, Laceyville, Pa. 18623, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
