Dr. J.D.Talley has found among his family papers the obituary of the wife of Thomas C.D. Mantonya (Alice Anna Hobson), which reads as follows:
Died - At her home in this city, at 12 o'clock, Wednesday night, Mrs. Montanya, wife of Thomas Montanya of this city.
Deceased had been dangerously ill for over a month, and while cheerfil and hopeful, there was throughout a belief that death would take her. Mr. Montanya has been for some time past in the Territory, but was summoned home several weeks ago, the attending physicians having lost
all hope of her recovery.
Mrs. Montanya was born in 1852. She was married to Thomas Montanya March 4, 1869, at Canton, Illinois. In October, 1878, they removed to Kansas settling in Crawford county near what is now Pittsburg, then a little mining camp. They settled on a small farm, Mr. Montanya working part of the time as a blacksmith for the first coal mining industry of this district.
They passed many of the trials of the early settlers of a new country and assisted in its upbuilding,
making friends of all whom they came in contact.
Mrs. Montanya leaves a husband and six children. William, James, Jot [Joshua], Ottie, John and Myrtle, all of whom save John have reached or nearly reached manhood or womanhood.
The funeral will occur to-morrow afternoon at 2 p.m., from the family residence on North Broadway, near 13th street. The remains will be interred in the Hobson cemetery south of this city.

There is no date anywhere, but present on the reverse side are two marriage notices. They carry the dates of May 16 and May 17, 1898. [May 18 was a Wednesday and it seems likely that the paper was published a couple of days after these events, probably Friday, May 20. That would mean that the funeral was on Saturday, May 21, 1898.]
