Richard PARROTT

(This may not be the right father for Franicis and William.  See the following from Wayne Parrott:

1) You have Francis and Williams listed as his eldest children.  I am pretty sure this is incorrect.  In his writings, Richard clearly mentions Richard Jr. as his eldest son, and Henry as his second son.
2) I have seen nothing that can prove Richard is the s/o John Perrot and Prunella, and even less that this John is the s/o of the Sir John, though Sir John did have a son, John, b ~1565, who was admitted to the bar, and then got lost.
If I had to go out on a limb right now, I would say that Richard Perrott was the son of Richard and Margaret Bromwith Perrot.  Francis was his nephew, and William his half brother.  Proving this, is another matter.
I have a listing of the early Perrott families of Virginia at <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~parrott/parrottlines.shtml>
So while I suspect the c were all related, there is no paper record, so I have resorted to starting a DNA project to sort things out.
That information is at <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~parrott/>

Occupation: High Sheriff and Senior Justice of Middlesex County Court

Religion:  Church of England

"Richard Sr. was a vestryman of Christchurch, a commissioner of Lancaster County in 1656, elected High Sheriff, June 5, 1657, and Senior Justice of Middlesex County Court, 1673, until his death.

Frequent mention is made of him in Virginia history, and Mishop Meade, in his 'Old families and Churches,' states that he appealed to while in England, on one of his visits, to bring out a minister for the church.

"The register also contains the following entry; 'Whereas Mr. Richard perrott hath built a Pew in the chancell on the further side opposite the Pulpitt and a stable also, which Pew and Stable is for the use of Henry Corbin, Esq., perperly belonging to him and those that shall have and enjoy the houe and land whereon he hath now built on and forever, September 29, 1669.'

"Richard, Jr., died November 11, 1686.  In his will he mentions his wife, Margaret, and his grandsons, Henry and Richard, sons of Richard Jr. His plantations were in Middlesex County.  One of them, of one thousand acres, was on the north side of Pyankatank River.  his wife, Margaret, died January 30, 1687.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~parrott/richardperrott.shtml; last update 23 July 2005.  final version of transcript of will of Richard has been added.
Richard PARROTT ~1615-11 November 1686) of Middlesex Co., Virginia is one of the earliest documented Parrots on the North American continent.  His name was variously spelled Perrott, Parat, Parrat, Parrett, Perrot, Parrot and Parrott.  The latter spelling became standard in later generations.   Although his later years are well documented, his early years are not, and there are tremendous amounts of misinformation circulating on the Internet. ; Various claims to the contrary not withstanding, the real identity of his parents is not known, although there are some possibilities.  Furthermore, only three of the names of is children are known.  Everything else is just speculation.
COAT OF ARMS
According to published reports in both Crozier's Virginia Heraldica and in two issues of William and Mary Quarterly, Richard Perrot sealed his will with a coat of arms consisting of 'three pears', thus identifying him as a member of the 'Perrotts of Pembrokeshire', wales, or more likely, one of the English branches of that family.  after all, Richard was known as an Englishman, not a Welshman.  However, the description of his coat of arms that is given is simply that it consists of 'three pears.'  This description is remarkably vague, as compared to the descriptions of other coats provided by Crozier. Furthermore, mention of the demi-lion that should be over the pears is altogether absent.
It is likely the authors of these publications never saw Richard's arms first hand, and depended on second-hand information.  The wax seal on Richard Perrott's will was intentionally defaced, probably over a century ago, as determined by how much the wax has hardened since then.  Furthermore, the seal on his wife's will was cut out with a razor blade.  Thus, the true nature of his family arms has been lost forever.  It is thus not possible to determine if his arms were truly those of the 3 pears, or those of another arms-bearnng Perrott family.
