Lord Renger succeeded to his father's lands, rights and titles. Contrary to the last three generations before him, he prefered a quiet life on his ancestral ground in Seeland to the more turbulent life in Holland. He showed himself a good administer as Treasurer-General of "Seeland-Be-Ooster-Schelde" (East of the Scheld), which post he filled from 1366 to 1372. In 1372 he became the Treasurer-General of the more important "Seeland-Be-Wester-Schelde". He was a member of the Counts
council of Seeland and stood high in favor with the Court.
By Charter of Oct. 1, 1372, the Count of Holland and Seeland gave to him and his cousin Jan and all their subjects in the land of Cats the privileges mentioned above. -from the Van Cott genealogy by Annie A. Van Cott
