Sir John de Hotham, of Scorborough; granted Manor of Carnaby by Henry de Percy 1354; married Matilda, daughter and coheir of 4th Lord (Baron) Hilton, and died c1370.

NOTE: BP is apparently in error in giving Matilda's father as the 4th Lord Hilton.  According to CP XII/1:743 & note (i), Dugdale (who BP was probably following) was in error in stating that Margaret Thweng (Matilda's mother) married Robert Hilton of Hilton (who was 4th Lord Hilton).  Margaret Thweng married Robert Hilton of Swine, who was a cousin of the Lord Hilton's, being a junior branch of the family descending from the 1st Lord Hilton of Hilton.  Thus I originally had Matilda's parents as Robert 4th Baron Hilton of Hilton & Margaret Thweng, I have changed it to agree with CP thanks to the following e-mail from Thomas Grindley, who pointed out the information in CP (see notes under Maud/Matilda de Hilton for CP's account):

"Dear Sir, I wish to query your entry for Robert Hilton, who married Margaret Thweng.  You have him as Robert Hilton, d. 1370, fourth Baron.  According to "The Complete Peerage", under Thweng, page 743, he should be Sir Robert Hilton of Swine, Yorks., son of William Hilton of Swine, son of Robert Hilton, first Baron.  Sincerely, Thomas Grindley, Maryland, USA"
